DDMS
is an internet based document retrieval and workflow system. It allows scanned images
to be made available over the internet to clients. The main advantage is
that documents become available to anyone (with permission) on any PC (with
internet access), anywhere in the world without massive licensing costs that are
present with normal client software.
The
system also provides a distinct advantage when updates to the data are required
by the scanning bureau. Information is loaded straight to the system without the
need to transport CD ROMs to the clients site using traditional slow postal
systems.
Clients
with remote sites, for example building sites, controlled by a central head
office, can have access to the data using an internet
connection. Again, this removes the need to transport data using
fragile media such as CD ROM which, in some environments may be unsuitable.
